Welcome Deer Hunters
Deer Hunting is one of the oldest sports that anyone, any age, can enjoy. Successful hunts place meat in our freezers, trophies on our walls, and for some of us, our names in the record books. Pursuing and harvesting a whitetail deer is rewarding and very challenging. Many obstacles have to be defeated to reach our goal.
Over the years deer hunters have declined, but we are experiencing an increase of women and children becoming involved. Learning how to hunt is usually passed on from family members and future hunters are born every day. The sport of deer hunting will be around for generations to come.
Aboutdeerhunting.com would like to do our part in promoting deer hunting. Our website contains FREE Techniques and Tips in our Deer Hunting Tips tab. Need Deer Hunting Gear? Find your products under Discount Deer Hunting Gear and learn how we save on items year-round!

Most deer hunters don’t hang up their bow when the season ends because they love shooting, whether it’s in 3D competition, Olympic-style competitions, bowfishing or just in the yard with a favorite target. Some will use their hunting bow for the competition events, which keeps them in tune with that specific bow and gear. Others switch to a competition bow for the off-season events, with maybe a different setup or […]
The first time you pulled an SD card and reviewed the photos your game camera captured, you basked in the glory of your wise decision of purchasing a camera. You chortled at all the deer intel now available at your fingertips, and you dreamed of how you could use all that valuable information to take your deer hunting to the next level. Then, reality struck. Sure, you did obtain a […]
Unlike many Eastern whitetail hunts, where you are only a few minutes from your parked truck, when hunting the expansive West you must ensure you have everything you need for a day in the field. Here are some of the gear items that get put to use for my hunting trips for whitetail deer, mule deer, elk and other game. I stow my gear in a Mystery Ranch Metcalf backpack […]
Jeff Neal thought about my idea momentarily and then nodded his head in agreement. “That’s pretty good, considering how much we’ve been in and out of here the last few days,” he said. “I like it.” After three days of hunting out of the same Banks Blind close to the camp house and barn, just a few hours after 10 people had been on two utility vehicles with six deer for a […]

With large cities strung up and down the East Coast and some of the highest whitetail hunter densities per capita, there’s no debate where the most savvy whitetail hunters hang their hats. These hunters grew up with whitetails, honed their skills at deer hunting camps and devised tactics and strategies that have served them well. As whitetail densities increased in the West, hunters there employed the same spot-and-stalk methodology they […]
There was a day not so long ago when deer hunters across North America were absolutely fascinated with big bucks. No, not big racks — big bucks. Huge, giant, monstrous creatures. Or, as the old-timers called them, “real slobberknockers.” Antlers were adored, but they were almost secondary when it came to describing a buck’s status. “What did he weigh?” was often the first question asked of a successful hunter. This […]
A month ago in the heat of summer, DDH Editor in Chief Dan Schmidt captured this video on his Wildgame Innovations game camera of a buck checking scent on a sapling. It wasn’t just any scent, though. Schmidt had doctored the sapling with Smokey’s preorbital gland lure, one of the hottest and most effective lures you can use. It didn’t take long for this young 10-point buck to become attracted […]
Young Ted had it made. Had my very 1st bow by the time I could walk (which was before my 2nd birthday) and quite honestly I never put it down in all these 68 glowing arrow flinging years! I don’t shoot arrows, I am the arrow! I am also hopelessly human, which brings about a series of lifetime misgivings and human shortcomings. From the very beginnings of my mystical flight of the […]
