Welcome Deer Hunters

Whitetail_Deer_2-InBush

Deer Hunting is one of the oldest sports that anyone, any age, can enjoy.  Successful hunts place meat in our freezers, trophies on our walls, and for some of us, our names in the record books.  Pursuing  and harvesting a whitetail deer is rewarding and very challenging.  Many obstacles have to be defeated to  reach our goal.

Over the years deer hunters have declined, but we are experiencing an increase of women and children becoming involved.    Learning how to hunt is usually passed on from family members and future hunters are born every day.  The sport of deer hunting will be around for generations to come.

Aboutdeerhunting.com would like to do our part in promoting deer hunting.  Our website contains FREE Techniques and Tips in our Deer Hunting Tips tab.  Need Deer Hunting Gear?  Find your products under Discount Deer Hunting Gear and learn how we save on items year-round!

Hunters Encouraged to Report Sightings of Sick Deer

Hunters are asked to report observations of sick or dead deer to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission as they head afield this September. Each summer, the Commission monitors for signs of diseased deer; reports from the public help track incidents. Deer populations in Nebraska have been healthy across most areas and last year’s harvest resulted in near-record numbers. Few cases of sick deer have been reported so far this […]

Best Food Plot Gameplan for Bowhunters

Movement in the thicket caught my attention and made my heart race. A buck was headed my way, leaving his daytime hiding spot to feed in the lush food plots I’d planted for him and his brethren. As he cleared the thick cover, I saw he was a young 8-pointer. When the buck was beneath my stand, I realized he was being followed by another youngster. They soon moved past […]

Every time my wife, Nicole, and I set up a stand in a tree or on the ground, we look for ways to make that location the best it can be. We try to enhance each stand location by making sure there are one or more calling cards available to deer. By Pat Reeve What is a calling card? It’s some type of object or contrivance that will entice a deer to […]

Fondle Hardware Like You Mean It!

I fondle hardware. I embrace sporting goods. I tinker. I wallow in outdoor gear. I snuggle ammo. I caress firepower. I break stuff. I wear stuff out. Debate: Use a Marinade for Your Deer Meat?

Summer is a great time for cranking up the smoker to create some delicious roasts, ribs, shoulders or sausages. If you planned ahead and have some deer shoulders or roasts to use, that’s great. If not, a good beef brisket, ribs, pork roast or some store- bought sausages are great options before deer season gets here. There seems to be two camps for marinades and rubs. One camp loves a lot […]

Study Shows Some Deer Genetically Resistant to Chronic Wasting Disease

I think it was Kramer from the comedy Seinfeld who said it best: Mother Nature is a mad scientist! Nowhere is this more apparent than when considering how different animals have physical characteristics that may look strange, but that are best suited to their environment. For example, whitetail deer are born with white spots, camouflaging and protecting them from predators. By Darren Warner For Deer & Deer Hunting Scientist Charles […]
